WILMETTE PHOTOGRAPHER CAPTURING FAMILIES IN & AROUND THE NORTHSHORE OF CHICAGO
Everyone loves a good beach photo. Well almost everyone, my husband is not so fond of the sand, but even I convinced him to do beach photos this year with our photographer. But, here is the thing, beach photos are tricky. And, not everyone understands why.
Most photographers will tell you that the best time to do photos is during the golden hour. Which is the hour before sunset or after sunrise. This is the magical hour that the sun is falling or rising behind the trees or buildings and creating a beautiful golden glow to everything around. Some photographers will even ONLY photograph during the golden hour.
But, here is the thing with the beach… there is nothing for the sun to fall behind. So timing is even more particular when it comes to the sun. You need to do it right at or around sunset. And, in the summer months, boy that can be late for the little ones! (To the tune of 8p-8:30p). But, if you want that beautiful sunlight, trust your photographer on this one and go with the flow of timing. Either get up really early or stay up pretty late and get that sunrise/sunset sunlight.
Other things to consider about the beach is wind and sand. One, it can be SUPER windy and not be going the way you particularly want your hair to be blowing. So be open to maybe being away from the water or changing location based on the weather that day.
The other is sand. Some kids get distracted by the sand and water and depending on the photos you are looking to create, that can be an issue. Or, it can be a beautiful fun experience. It all depends what you are expecting and what you make of it. So keep these things in mind when you have your dream beach session as your top choice of location. And, be ready to be flexible and just be prepared for all the things that can come your way. And trust your photographer!
